ASUS AiProtection
ASUS routers' built-in security suite that blocks threats before they reach your devices
What is AiProtection?
AiProtection is a security feature built into many ASUS routers. It is powered by Trend Micro, a well-known cybersecurity company, and works like a security guard sitting between your home network and the internet. It scans traffic coming in and going out, looking for threats before they can reach your devices.
Think of it as a spam filter for your entire network, not just email. It watches for malicious websites, blocks known attack patterns, and can even detect if one of your devices has been infected and is trying to communicate with a hacker's server.
Why it matters
AiProtection provides three main layers of defense. First, it blocks connections to known malicious websites, so if you accidentally click a bad link, the router stops the connection before your browser loads anything dangerous. Second, it includes an intrusion prevention system (IPS) that detects and blocks common attack patterns targeting your network. Third, it can identify infected devices on your network and quarantine them.
This is especially valuable because it protects every device in your home, including smart TVs, security cameras, and IoT gadgets that you cannot install antivirus software on. Even if you are careful about what you click, these other devices may have vulnerabilities that AiProtection can help guard against.
What you can do
- Log into your ASUS router's admin page (usually at router.asus.com or 192.168.1.1) and look for AiProtection under the security settings
- Enable all three components: Malicious Site Blocking, Two-Way IPS, and Infected Device Prevention and Blocking
- Check the AiProtection dashboard periodically to see what threats have been blocked and which devices triggered alerts
- Keep your router's firmware updated so the threat database stays current
- Remember that AiProtection is an additional layer of security, not a replacement for being careful online and keeping your devices updated
What Network Weather shows you
Network Weather detects whether AiProtection is enabled on your ASUS router and recommends turning it on for an extra layer of network security.
