iPhone Hotspot, Spanish & Stability

macOS Requires macOS 14+

iPhone Hotspot Detection

When you're tethered to your iPhone, Network Weather now knows about it.

  • Phone details — Shows your iPhone's name, battery level, signal strength, and cellular network type (5G, LTE, etc.) right on the gateway card
  • Wi-Fi and USB — Works whether you're tethered over Wi-Fi or with a USB cable. USB tethering shows a phone icon instead of a generic "Thunderbolt Ethernet" label
  • Android too — Detects Android hotspots and shows "Metered" and "Low Data" connection badges
  • No false alarms — Previously, tethering showed "Router: Unknown" with 100% packet loss because the virtual gateway doesn't respond to probes. Now it skips those probes entirely

Spanish Language Support

The entire app is now available in Spanish (Latin American).

  • Full translation — All menus, labels, status messages, health reports, onboarding, and educational popovers are translated
  • Automatic — If your Mac is set to Spanish, the app switches automatically. No setting to toggle
  • Technical terms preserved — DNS, VPN, SSID, and other technical terms stay in English for clarity

VPN + Hotspot

Using a VPN while tethered now works much better.

  • ISP stays visible — Your real ISP is correctly identified even when connected through a VPN over a phone hotspot
  • Seamless switching — Toggling your VPN on and off while tethered no longer causes the hotspot details to disappear
  • DNS updates — Turning Cloudflare WARP or other VPNs on and off now properly updates your DNS server list instead of showing stale entries

Reliability

  • UniFi error flood — Fixed an issue where UniFi users could see repeated "session expired" errors filling their logs
  • Network map loading — Fixed a rare startup issue where the network map could fail to populate
  • Battery friendly — Network probes now stop automatically when your connection goes down, instead of continuing to run in the background
  • Routing table stability — Fixed a rare crash that could occur when the system routing table changed rapidly
  • VPN display — Fixed an issue where VPN packet loss could display an incorrect value
  • Internet outage detection — More reliably detects when your internet is down, even on routers that don't support UPnP
  • General hardening — Addressed several potential crash scenarios across the app
